Crystal Advent Legacies-Origins
In the beginning, it's how the first tales begin and considering this a tale of how gods and mortals came to be, it's only fitting to begin with those words. So, in the beginning, there was the Light, a shining beacon of radiant warmth reaching out across a depthless void, and there was the Dark, the void of absence which expanded further and further without end, its cold vacuous presence leeching warmth, thought and breath from the Light by its mere presence.
There was another wandering the void, hidden from the sight of the Light and the Dark. A strange figure without form, an essence of thought and moment that flowed across the empty abyss in search of some inspiration or guidance. As it wandered, this presence found the Light, but not before the Dark. Hordes of rampaging monsters assaulted a glowing crystalline orb that shot out catastrophic blasts of flame and power, cracking the weft of the cosmos with each explosion.
Slithering, phasing, jumping, oozing, the aberrations continued their approach, wading through piles of amalgamated viscera fused together and weeping trails of clear and crimson fluids. Before being blasted apart or reduced to ash, these creatures all had the same sleek, oily black skin and burning crimson eyes, that's where all similarities ended. Some had mammalian shapes, furred beasts with oily black fur and gleaming silver fangs while others were amphibian, slimy tendrils attached to fleshy sacks that pulsated with sickly life, others were a horrifying mixture of both or held strange limbs and anatomies that defied explanation for even one who eventually call itself a god.
The Light and Dark fought, while Time grew into sentience, watching the moments roll on and on and recording the events within its growing mind. The last thing it saw before its reawakening was the Sundering, the Light, losing the battle, and desperate to take its destroyer with it, released a blast like anything else beforehand. Prismatic hued flames gushed outwards from the fracturing crystal in exploding blasts creating polychromatic clouds of utter destruction. Fragments of superheated crystal rode the flaming waves of catastrophe while the hordes of Darkness were burnt, melted and blasted into ruin.
Mind burning from the torment searing into every fiber of its being, the Darkness disconnected its mind from the void, lobotomizing itself to prevent its own destruction. Light similarly saved its own psyche, retreating into one of the tears ripped into the cosmos just before forcing its core to self-destruct. The Light soon had to flee, for it was not alone in these new ethereal spaces and they were far, far from safe, while the darkness found itself weakened, reduced to less of a tenth of itself while fragments of light were now spread throughout the entire void.
Seething with anger but more at its own incompetence, the Dark retreated to the darkest sector of the cosmos. It might not attack the Light again or other shards but their creations would not be so fortunate. The other beings growing the ethereal spaces had no such restraint, a war engulfed the cosmos as burgeoning gods were faced with horrors beyond their scope or comprehension. Many were lost, slain by what were later known as the Demiurges but some managed to survive. The Eldari and their kin are the only known survivors in the cosmos but there is always hope there might be others out there, fighting against the forces of Darkness.
